Ski Transfer to the Alps: A Guide to the 2026/27 Season
The first day of a ski holiday should begin on the slopes, not queuing for rental cars or putting on snow chains in the dark. A private ski transfer takes you from the airport or home directly to your hotel or chalet, with your skis and luggage already stowed away.
In this guide you will find travel times to the main locations, the rules you need to know for driving in the mountains in winter and advice for organising your transfer.
Most popular locations and travel times
These times are indicative, based on normal traffic and weather conditions. They may be longer in snowy conditions or on shift change Saturdays.
Destination | From Turin | From Milan Malpensa |
Sestriere and Vialattea | about 1 hour and 30 minutes | about 3 hours |
Bardonecchia | about 1 hour and 15 minutes | about 2 hours and 45 minutes |
Cervinia | about 1 hour and 45 | about 2 hours and 15 minutes |
Courmayeur | about 1 hour and 45 | about 2 hours and 30 minutes |
Chamonix (France) | about 2 hours | about 2 hours and 45 minutes |

Vialattea (Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, Claviere, Montgenèvre). The closest ski area to Turin, straddling Italy and France. Also ideal for a short weekend.
Bardonecchia and the Upper Susa Valley. Easily accessible via the Frejus motorway, it's a favorite destination for those traveling from Turin.
Aosta Valley: Cervinia and Courmayeur. Cervinia, at the foot of the Matterhorn, is connected to the slopes of Zermatt; Courmayeur is located beneath Mont Blanc. Travel times from Malpensa are similar to those from Turin, which is why many international guests land in Milan.
French Alps: Chamonix, Courchevel, Megève, Val d'Isère, Serre Chevalier. They can be reached from Turin via the Mont Blanc and Fréjus tunnels or the Montgenèvre pass.
Driving in the mountains in winter: the rules
If you're thinking of renting a car, these are the rules you need to know:
In Italy, winter tires or snow chains are mandatory on many mountain roads from November 15th to April 15th; in the Aosta Valley, the requirement begins as early as mid-October on high-risk stretches.
In France, the Loi Montagne requires winter tires with the 3PMSF marking or snow chains or socks to be carried on board in mountain municipalities from November 1st to March 31st.
Dates may change with local ordinances, and affected sections are marked with signs.
With a Ski Transfer, all of this is our job: the vehicles destined for the mountains are equipped for the winter season and the drivers are experienced on Alpine routes.
Why choose a private ski transfer?
From the airport to your hotel door, without changing trains, shuttles, or buses.
Space for skis, snowboards, and luggage, with the vehicle chosen based on the number of people and equipment.
Flight monitoring: If your plane arrives early or late, the driver knows and will be waiting for you in the arrivals area with a sign with your name.
Round trip on the same service, with the return time agreed upon based on the departure flight.
Ideal for families and groups: just one vehicle and a price agreed upon before departure.

Tips for organizing your trip
Book your transfer in advance for Christmas, New Year's Eve, and the weeks of February, the most popular periods.
Let us know the number of passengers, luggage, and equipment— skis and snowboards require space—and we'll choose the vehicle accordingly.
Please provide your flight number: this allows us to track your arrival and coordinate your welcome.
Check the ski resort websites for opening times: the season generally starts between late November and mid-December, depending on snow conditions.
Allow plenty of time for the return journey: on shift change Saturdays, traffic coming down from the valleys is heavy.
